"Creation of a Multimedia Beatles Companion"

I will create a multimedia companion to my Z401/Music of the Beatles course, which is now migrating from a seminar to a large lecture format. The program will contain a large archive of pictures, audio clips and digitized videos tracing the Beatles' career and musical development, along with displays of song lyrics, chord symbols, formal structure and other musical analysis synched to the audio examples that I play in class. The Beatle Companion will also include an interactive guide to Beatle-related sites – homes, schools, clubs, recording studios, offices, film locations and so on – in Liverpool and London.

"Engaging Students in Learning Human Anatomy and Physiology Through an Interactive Multimedia Program"

The goal of this project is to provide students of human anatomy and physiology a strategy for greater engagement in their own learning. The course will use both interactive video and on-line (Oncourse) components to allow the student advantages over courses now in place. The proposed course will provide on-line structure for self-guided study, practice quizzes and exercises. The structure will offer greater flexibility in terms of class location and time. It will also make it possible for a student to interact with other students and the instructor with greater convenience and frequency throughout the week.

"Distributed Chinese Language Learning: A Model for Foreign Language Education"

This proposal requests support for development of a Web site which makes use of the multimedia and networking capabilities of internet technology to provide an array of exercises for students of Chinese with various learning needs. The resulting Web site will be used in the author's classes, fully integrated into the current curriculum and serve as a model for other foreign language instruction at IU and beyond. It will immediately address the many pedagogical challenges faced by Chinese educators, both locally and at national level, and help promote distributed Chinese/foreign language education in the long run. "Cardiovascular Embryology Modules for Medical Students and Medical Professionals"

Cardiovascular Embryology AnimationHuman cardiovascular embryology (heart and blood vessel development) is a challenging subject, as students must conceptualize a series of complex events that occur over time. There are few educational materials that illustrate effectively these dynamic processes. We are producing Web-based animation modules for cardiovascular embryology. Some modules are already available at Cardiovascular Embryology Animations . However, more modules must be developed and assessments for each prepared. IU Bloomington medical students will use these modules in their Gross Anatomy course. The URL will be listed in a central IU School of Medicine database, allowing access to 1900 students, staff and residents. Finally, medical professionals and laypeople worldwide can utilize these modules.

"Creating a Web-based Resource on Intelligence to Support Learning and Instruction"

The purpose of this project is to expand and improve the framework for a Web site on the study of intelligence (See History of Influences in the Development of Intelligence Theory Testing). Few sites on intelligence exist, and those sites are generally commercial in nature. The current site was designed to serve as a resource for students studying intelligence, with the main resources being profiles of selected researchers and theorists, reviews of controversial issues (i.e., "Hot Topics"), and multiple navigation tools to locate information. Revising the site to take advantage of recent advances in instructional technology and research on human learning will allow the site to foster student learning more efficiently than the current version. Specific activities will include video streaming of interviews with profiled academics, opportunities to collaborate with other students, collections of teaching resources such as syllabi and teaching activities, and enhanced interactivity of site features.
